A Brief History of Bagumbong High School

Bagumbong is one of the barangays of the City of Caloocan situated near the barangays of Deparo, Camarin, Urduja and Bagbaguin, Meycauayan, Bulacan. People living in this place are getting most of their daily needs in Novaliches town market. Bagumbong has only one elementary school since 1930. Most of the residents of this place are engaged in farming since the place is composed of farm lands, rice fields and orchards.

Most of the residents are only elementary graduates because they find it very difficult to send their children to Novaliches High School to pursue their secondary education. Given this problem, MR. LUIS P. REODIQUE, the principal of Bagumbong Elementary School together with the PTA President MR. MARCELO RAMOS made a written request to the Division of City Schools, Caloocan copy furnished the City Mayor, the late HON. MACARIO B. ASISTIO SR. to put up a secondary school in Bagumbong.

Bagumbong Barangay High School was established in June 15, 1967. The first batch of First Year students were only 27 young boys and girls. The first teachers in this school were: Mr. Roberto Bustos, Mrs. Lolita Aspe, Mrs. Felicidad Delos Reyes, Mrs. Heidi Quiambao, Mr. Lino Ramos, Miss Julita Ramos, and Miss Adelaida Z. Clamor. The following year, 1968, the school admitted students for the Second Year level until two years later the First Commencement Exercises was held in Bagumbong Elementary grounds together with the elementary pupils. The first principal to supervise this secondary institution was Mr. Luis P. Reodique, Bagumbong barangay High School was turned into an independent high school in the year 1985. It was later named Bagumbong High School.

Miss Adelaida Z. Clamor, the officer In-Charge of BHS had thought of looking into a bigger area for BHS. She was assisted by her brother Councilor Leonardo Z. Clamor. They discovered a vacant space in Rainbow Village 5, Phase II, a nearby subdivision in Bagumbong which is almost half a kilometer away form the old site. When everything was settled and legally documented, the City Government began the construction of a 12 classroom building. This was June 1, 1988. Mrs. Adelaida Clamor Gagarra, together with the teachers and students transferred to the new school site in June, 1989. The total land area of this lot is 8,407 square meters. The parents and teachers planted trees and constructed improvised fence to secure the area.

In 1990, another building was constructed by the National Government which made the site an attractive place to the nearby subdivision homeowners. In 1993, a three-storey building had risen which cater to the growing population of the community. This building was financed by the Department of Public Works and Highways. In 1994, two SEDP buildings were constructed simultaneously. With the presence of the newly constructed edifices, the enrollment had doubled due to influx of new residents from the nearby subdivisions. In the year 2000, Mayor Reynaldo Malonzo sponsored the construction of a nine classroom building with the assistance of Congressman ENRICO ECHIVERRI. In the year 2001, a covered court was put up in the midst of the quadrangle for the physical education classes. Its measurement is 20 meters by 60 meters or a total of 1,200 square meters. The bleachers surrounding the covered court were built in the year 2006 with the help of the Supreme Student Council headed by Mary Joy Carrera under the advisorship of Ms. Delma R. Manliclic

In the year 2012, a four storey building with 16 classrooms was built under the sponsorship of the City Mayor Enrico "Recom" Echiverri. Few months after, then Congressman OSCAR O. MALAPITAN financed the construction of a 6 classroom building, side by side its twin building consisting of 6 classrooms rose after eight months. It was also in the year 2013 that the City Government of Caloocan financed the installation of four electronic rooms to fully assist the teachers in putting across subject matters aided by computers, LCD projectors, and electronic boards. These modern and highly technical gadgets facilitated ease in teaching Science subjects, especially in presenting experiments, historical events, facts and discoveries through internet. The improvements of Bagumbong High School were made possible not only through the efforts of the people in government but with the full support of the Parent-Teacher Association officers and members, BHS Faculty and staff, Non-Government Organization, BHS Teachers Multipurpose Cooperative and students.
